Loving those in Need

We are to love Jesus first, even above good things like giving to the poor. It is the first and greatest commandment (Matthew 22:37-38).

Our affection for Jesus should spill over into our actions. Jesus tells us that we can love him extravagantly by loving those in need (Matthew 25:34-40). Loving those in need is at the very heart of who God is, and if we want to love and serve him, this must also become important to us.

Three ways you can love those in need:

Spend your Time.

Put yourself in the way of those in need so that you have the opportunity to love them.

Spend your Money.

Fight against the idols of money and materialism in our culture by giving beyond what you think you can afford.

Spend your Resources.

“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion” (2 Corinthians 9:11). God pours out his blessings on his people. We should look for ways to share our blessings for the benefit of others. This includes not just material goods and resources but also the gifts of the Spirit. (Acts 3:2-8)
