Hope (Romans 8: 18-25, Hebrews 6:13-20) Alice King
Alice King began 2018 by reminding us where our hope is found.
What do we hope for?
Our inheritance as children of God, which is being with God himself (Romans 8:19, 23).
How can we hope for it?
Because God promises it by swearing on himself, and we can trust his character (Hebrews 6:17-18).
What effect does this hope have on us?
It gives us strength to face the unimaginably difficult, and it gives light to a world that is apathetic and despairing _(Hebrews 6:19, Romans 8:24-25).
Questions:
- What are you hoping for this year?
- What do we hope for as Christians?
- How often does this heavenly hope invade our daily reality?
- How do we reconcile the things we hope for everyday with the eternal hope described by the Bible?
This is a great subject to talk about, but it’s an amazing subject to pray about at the start of the year. This is my prayer for you and your small groups: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 5:13)
I want to encourage to leave plenty of time for prayer: pray to be filled with hope, pray for the things your small group are hoping for, pray that this year we might show God’s hope to a world that desperately needs hope.
