Our Vision: Building a House for God

God is calling us to build a House for God. We want to be a church for all, a church for all of Edinburgh, and a church where all of us are 'all in'. If you would like more information on this, please download the full finance report from the small group notes tab. Thank you.

King’s Church Edinburgh began in 2002 with a group of about a dozen people in a living room. We had some key values: emphasising the grace of God, enjoying great relationships, teaching the Bible, receiving the Spirit, and reaching out to others. Our values haven’t changed at all, if anything we’re even more passionate about them than ever! But sixteen years later, we’ve seen a lot of changes with hundreds of people gathering in small groups and at two Sunday services, many ministries started, and a church plant in West Lothian.

The more God has done, the more we want to see Him do. Last month we shared the news that Dan is taking on the role of leading the eldership team from Matthew. This is part of us preparing for what we believe God wants to do next as we build on the strong foundation He’s given us. The Church is God’s household, where people can experience His love and power, and be sent out on the mission He’s called us to.

There are three areas we’re feeling the Holy Spirit leading us in:

To Be a Church For All

We want King’s to be an increasingly diverse community with people from all stages of life and many different backgrounds experiencing friendship, support, and encouragement in faith and love. One of the practical ways we intend to make this happen is by making our building more accessible and useful to anyone coming to our meetings and events, by improving our disabled access with the installation of a ramp system. Also, from the autumn people attending the morning and evening Sunday meetings will receive the same preaching, so that we’re all on the same page together in what God is saying to us.

To Be a Church For All of Edinburgh

In several prayer meetings recently God has stirred us to have a vision for all of Edinburgh, not just the part where our building is. He wants us to accept the challenge to build a church that reaches far and wide across our city, including areas very different to Viewforth / Bruntsfield. We’re keen to see more small groups starting across the city so people can gather closer to where they live, and get inspired to bless their local area.

To Be a Church Where All of us Are "All In"

Just as Jesus gave us His all, so we want to be “all in” with Him and His purposes. We want to see people continually growing in maturity, discovering the gifts and opportunities He’s given us and putting them to use at home, at work, and in the church. We want to continue developing resources that will help people mature: growing in faith, character, gifting, and more. An important part of being “all in” is generosity with time, talents, and treasure – this has always been something that King’s has excelled in, and the more we all give, the more this church can do.

We’re publishing our summary financial report of 2017 at King’s, and once again it’s amazing to see how close the match between what we needed and what we got is! God meets all our needs “according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19) through the wonderfully joyful generosity and sacrificial giving of His people. Thank you.
